Tim Bogar set for Rangers interview Friday

Tim Bogar will finally get his chance to interview for the Texas Rangers’ managerial vacancy, a position he thrived in during a 22-game interim stretch to close the season.

Bogar and Alex Cora, the manager and general manager of Caguas Criollos of the Puerto Rico Winter League, are scheduled to be the final two candidates to interview Friday at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

On Thursday, Cleveland Indians bullpen coach Kevin Cash became the sixth candidate to interview.

The Rangers declined to comment on the interview, as has been their policy throughout a process that began Sept. 30 with pitching coach Mike Maddux and Triple A coach Steve Buechele. A second round of interviews is likely for a small group of finalists.

The Rangers remain on schedule to hire the full-time replacement for Ron Washington before the World Series, which begins Oct. 21. Bogar is considered the frontrunner for the post after going 14-8 following Washington’s resignation Sept. 5.
