UTA baseball rallies late to even series with Georiga State

A pair of two-out hits in the eighth inning lifted UT Arlington to a 6-3 Sun Belt Conference victory over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (15-20, 7-7 Sun Belt) scored three runs in the eighth with two outs to take their first lead of the game. With the bases loaded, Brady Cox drilled a single to left, scoring Ryan Bottger and Justin Copeland.

Eric Tate (4 for 5, two RBIs) followed with another hit to score Greg McCall.

Zach Hobbs (3-0) worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Zach Thompson to earned the victory.

Jess Amedee struck out the final two batters to pick up his third save.

Mavericks pitchers limited the Panthers (17-19, 5-9) to seven hits a day after allowing 13 in an 11-10 loss.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for noon Sunday at GSU Baseball Complex.
