Georgia State rallied for a run in the seventh inning and three in the eighth to erase UT Arlington’s late lead and steal an 11-10 victory in the opener of a Sun Belt Conference series Friday at GSU Baseball Complex.

UTA (14-20 overall, 6-7 Sun Belt) resumes its three-game road series against Georgia State (17-18, 5-8) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Three UTA starters were missing because of injuries and illness, forcing a shuffle in the field and resulting in three errors.

“You’ve got some guys moved around into some spots they’re normally not playing, but that’s no excuse,” UTA coach Darin Thomas said. “We’ve got to play better. Anytime you score 10, you should win.

GSU trailed 9-7 entering the bottom of the seventh. A two-run double by GSU with two outs in the eighth made it 11-9, and UTA was held to one run on one hit in the ninth, a home run by Ryan Bottger, to end it.

Always with the drama.

For the Dallas Cowboys, a quick and stunning 21-0 lead over the favored Philadelphia Eagles apparently wasn’t theatrical enough.
