Feliz has rough spring debut as Rangers fall to White Sox

The velocity hasn’t come back for Neftali Feliz and he has struggled this spring.

Feliz gave up a two-run homer to Tyler Flowers in the sixth inning of the Texas Rangers’ 9-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.

Feliz also gave up a homer in an intrasquad game earlier in the week.

“We’d all like to see him throw the ball the way we’re used to seeing him throw, but the guy just an operation [Tommy John elbow surgery in August 2012],” manager Ron Washington said. “We don’t know what’s going on; I think he topped out today at 92 mph.”

Feliz was one of several to make their Cactus League debuts. Robbie Ross and Tanner Scheppers, relievers attempting to start, each threw two innings. Ross allowed one run on two hits, and Scheppers allowed one hit over two innings.

Ross was pleased with his outing, saying he mixed in three changeups and two curveballs.

Joakim Soria had the most impressive outing with a perfect fifth.

“Soria was Soria. Pro,” Washington said. “Got his three outs and got off the field.”

Offensively, bench candidate Kevin Kouzmanoff had a solo homer in the seventh, and regulars Jurickson Profar, Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre each had two hits.
