Return felt great for Rangers’ West

For pitcher Matt West, just being on the mound felt good. To have success in his first spring training stint since Tommy John surgery felt even better.

He allowed one hit in his one inning of work Friday.

“It felt great just to get back out there,” said West, 25, who attended Houston Bellaire. “A year of rehab is a grind in itself. Every day is kind of the same thing. You kind of feel separated from the game in a way.”

West had a 3.72 ERA in 9 2/3 innings in 10 appearances in the Arizona Fall League after coming back from his 2012 surgery.

“It felt great yesterday,” he said. “I felt good going into it so it wasn’t really a surprise that it felt good out there.”.
