Seahawks QB Wilson tweets he’s coming to Rangers camp

A Super Bowl champ is coming to Texas Rangers spring training.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson announced that he will report to spring training for the Rangers on March 3.

Wilson wrote on his Twitter handle, @DangeRussWilson: “Hey @Rangers fans... See you at “Surprise” Arizona on March 3! #SpringTraining.”

Wilson had a picture attached to the tweet with him in a Rangers jersey and holding another jersey with his name on the back.

The Rangers drafted the star quarterback in the Triple A portion of the Rule 5 draft on the final day of the winter meetings. At the time, the Rangers knew Wilson wouldn’t quit his football career but simply wanted him in the organization to meet with the minor leaguers on what it takes to succeed in professional sports.

Wilson reached the highest point in football last season, leading the Seahawks to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.

Wilson played professional baseball for two seasons after the Colorado Rockies drafted him in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. The second baseman compiled a .229 average with five homers in 93 games, but had been on the Rockies’ inactive list as he pursued his football career. The Rangers paid $12,000 to select him in the Rule 5 draft.

The Rangers scouted him in high school and while he played at North Carolina State.
