The daily STEW

The daily STEW (Star-Telegram Editorial Writers): Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford, who was wounded during the Fort Hood attack, was invited to the State of the Union address by Rep. Roger Williams. Lunsford wants to call attention to the fact that the shooting on the base has been labeled workplace violence rather than a terrorist attack. Should the attack be reclassified and victims given combat-related compensation?

Yes...the murderer admitted he was declaring “jihad” on U.S. soldiers on U.S soil. If that’s not terrorism, then I’m a monkey’s uncle. Lindsay Schaechtel

Definitely. A shameless ploy by Obama to pretend Islamic violence doesn’t exist in the homeland. Lesley Hensell Demond

Without question. Anyone who argues otherwise is ignorant. Ron Glover

The shooter said it was a retaliatory attack for crimes against Islam. What part of that do our “leaders” in D.C. not get? Jeff Dunlop

How is it NOT a terrorist attack? He yelled out “Allahu Akbar” before shooting. He did it for Islamic reasons. He emailed another extremist about what he was going to do. Chanel

I say yes! Please help the victims and their families. What the hell is wrong with our leaders? Toni Crocco-Faison

Call it whatever you want; they should be given full benefits and compensation.

Michael Bilodeau

Amazing question. On one hand if you treat the victim as a wounded warrior, you place them in the category as those wounded in a combat zone. On the other hand, you can’t ignore that this was a terrorist attack. I got nerve damage during the last deployment and I can’t say that they should not be considered wounded warriors. Arthur Luciano Adame

Very proud for Roger Williams. That was terrorist attack! Laura Wilkerson Johnson
