Fire destroyed a home early Tuesday near the Fort Worth Zoo that once served as the residence of the Texas Wesleyan University president, fire officials said.
Two adults, a child and a dog escaped from the home in the 2200 block of Winton Terrace West, but three cats were killed, officials said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, Battalion Chief Richard Harrison said in an email. The call came in at about 2:45 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. They controlled the blaze within 25 minutes, Harrison said.
Fire officials said the house, built in 1949, was valued at $433,000.
