Fort Worth police are still trying to determine why a man was walking across north and southbound lanes of traffic on West Loop 820 at Clifford Street Sunday before he was killed, police said Monday night.
West Loop 820 at Clifford Street in White Settlement was shut down in both directions for at least three hours late Sunday after the man was hit by one vehicle and died at about 7:40 p.m., a Fort Worth police spokeswoman said.
The man was not trying to change a tire or get auto-related help, Pena said.
The man caused accidents on both sides of the highway, she said. One person’s vehicle rolled over as the driver swerved to avoid hitting the man. Another two crashed while avoiding him, too, she said.
Two other cars were involved in accidents following the initial crash due to “rubbernecking,” Pena said.
Three people had minor injuries after the accident, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.
The man’s identity will be released as soon as the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office notifies his family of his death.
Pena said the man’s age and residence wasn’t available as of Monday night.
