Man killed in crash after being chased by police is identified

A man driving a stolen car who led police on a high-speed chase late Thursday before he crashed and died has been identified as Dennis O’Toole, 35.

Police reported that an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of St. Louis Avenue. The officers tried to get a license plate number, but the motorist sped away, running a stop sign.

O’Toole lost control of his vehicle and hit two trees in the 1000 block of East Berry Street, police said.

He died of multiple blunt-force injuries due to a motor vehicle collision with a fixed object, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.
