W. Seventh bridge shut down during standoff

For about two hours Friday afternoon, Fort Worth police shut down the West Seventh Street bridge as police negotiators tried to talk a man out of jumping.

The man had a knife and was threatening to jump or force officers to shoot him, police said.

Firefighters and tactical officers stood by, and a dive team even got in the waters of the Trinity River.

About 3:45 p.m. the man threw down the knife and was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation, police said.
