Two arrested in Denton County vehicle burglaries

Watauga police have recovered items reported stolen in vehicle burglaries last month in the Lantana area of south Denton County, authorities said Wednesday.

Police subsequently arrested two suspects in the breakins, Sandi Brackeen, spokeswoman for the Denton County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release on Wednesday.

Amanda Ahlshier, 30, was in the Tarrant County Jail Wednesday. The location of Michiel Martin, also 30, was unclear Wednesday.

The case began Feb. 10 when Denton County deputies were called to investigate 17 car burglaries in the Lantana area, Brackeen said in the news release.

Lantana is about 23 miles north of Wautaga, which is in north Tarrant County.

“Investigators determined that a credit card stolen from one of the vehicles had been used at a Walmart in North Richland Hills,” Brackeen said.

Images of two people using the card were taken from store video surveillance and “distributed to law enforcement,” she said.

On Feb. 12, police arrested Ahlschier and Martin “on local charges in Watauga,” Brackeen said.

But, she said, the pair also “were in possession of items that linked them to the recent vehicle burglaries in Lantana.”

Brackeen did not describe the items in the news release; she could not be reached to answer questions on Wednesday.

Tarrant County jail records showed that Ahlschier was being held on charges of burglary of a vehicle, fraud, theft of property, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Total bail amounted to $40,000, according to jail records.

Meanwhile, Denton County Jail records showed that Martin was arrested on a charge of “burglary of a vehicle with two or more previous convictions.” Records also showed that $15,000 surety bond was received on Feb. 26.
