Firefighters were trying to determine what caused a fire at an abandoned church in the 5400 block of Elgin Street in east Fort Worth late Thursday.

No injuries were reported, a news release from the Fort Worth Fire Department said. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze about 10:40 p.m., and emergency personnel searched the building and found no one, the release said.

About 10 minutes after firefighters arrived, the roof began to sag and all emergency personnel were ordered to exit. The roof partially collapsed, and once the building was deemed stable enough, firefighters resumed their duties and extinguished the fire, the release said.
