Fort Worth hires new human resources director

The city has hired a new director of human resources who will start Jan. 13.

Brian Dickerson was director of human resources for Mesquite and has been in human resources for 20 years, according to a city news release.

Dickerson served four years as regional vice president for Cigna HealthCare’s government and education segment and moved to Mesquite in 2011. In Mesquite, he oversaw an initiative to reduce tobacco use by employees that resulted in $1.5 million in healthcare savings.

Karen Marshall, former director of human resources, left the city in late September for another job in Rockville, Md., city spokesman Bill Begley said. The city advertised nationally for the position but did not hire a firm to do the search.

Dickerson’s salary will be $148,000 a year.
