Here’s what’s new in bookstores this week:
•41: A Portrait of My Father
by George W. Bush (Crown, $28) — What happens when 43 writes about 41? Since they’re son and father and both former presidents, it’s a particularly “unique and intimate biography.” And complete, too. A family love story written from an insider’s perspective, it delves into the life and times of George H.W. Bush — from his service in World War II to the oil business in West Texas to his steady climb to the top of the political ladder. Bonus: George W. Bush narrates the audiobook (Random House Audio, $35).
•13 Soldiers: A Personal History of Americans at War
by John McCain and Mark Salter (Simon & Schuster, $28) — The bestselling writing team (Faith of My Fathers
) offers a tribute to soldiers just in time for Tuesday’s Veterans Day. Each chapter is devoted to an unsung individual — 11 men and two women — who have fought in our country’s 13 major wars (from the Revolutionary War to Iraq). McCain, a veteran himself, narrates the audiobook (Simon & Schuster Audio, $39.99).
by Preston & Child (Grand Central Publishing, $27) — Authors Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child return with the 14th thriller in their bestselling Special Agent Pendergast series. A body is left on Pendergast’s doorstep with one unusual clue: a chunk of turquoise in the victim’s belly. From there, it’s off to an old mine on the shore of the Salton Sea in California and confrontation with a killer out for revenge, thanks to a sinister Pendergast family secret. Actor Rene Auberjonois returns to narrate the audiobook (Hachette Audio, $40).
