Fab or flub? Color Wow Speed Dry Blow-Dry Spray

Whether you have thick or thin hair, damage from hot tools can wreak havoc.

To combat this (and make a quick buck off consumers in the process), hair-care brands like John Frieda and L’Oreal have developed creams and sprays to help prevent damage before it starts. Among the crop of new damage preventing products comes a spray by a little known brand called Color Wow.

Recommended for individuals with color-treated hair, Color Wow’s Speed Dry Blow-Dry Spray ( available at Ulta for $24) is designed to reduce drying time and prevent dryness, dullness and damage. Applied to wet hair, the alcohol-free formula also will strengthen and improve your hair’s overall condition by incorporating keratin proteins and amino acids, the company claims.

As someone who uses a heat-protective spray, I really liked the idea of a product that could protect my hair and cut down on styling time (allowing me to sleep a little later weekday mornings). Although I don’t have color-treated hair, I do have thick, damage-prone hair thanks to using a straightener, curling iron and blow dryer. I figured this alone qualified me to try out the spray.

First impression

Unlike most hair sprays, the product does not come in an aerosol can (bonus points for being environmentally friendly). Instead, the clear formula comes in a plastic bottle with a pump spray.

Before using it, I gave the spray a couple of spritzes to test the fragrance and to see what the formula felt like. I’m happy to report that the spray has almost no smell and is not sticky.

Fab or flub?

Fab! Talk about life changing. Color Wow’s Speedy Dry Blow-Dry Spray not only works, but it works so well that it cut my blow-dry time in half, from about 15 minutes to about 7 minutes. That means being out the door in record time in the mornings, but also causing less damage to my hair.

Overall, it has been a win-win product.
