Fab or flub: L’Oréal Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream

For as long as I can remember, I have been fighting the good fight against one of hair’s most notorious villains: frizz. Because I was born with long, thick hair, my least favorite days are those with humidity and/or rain.

Those occur more often than I’d like in North Texas. So I have searched high and low for that one glorious product that would finally give me the sleek, smooth finish I craved.

Unfortunately, I’ve yet to find it.

And so the search has continued every time I enter a store that carries hair care products. Which is how I happened to come across this week’s Fab or Flub product at Target.

Normally I research ahead of time to find recommendations from trusted beauty sources, but not this time. Instead, I came across a display for L’Oréal’s Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream.

Promising up to three days of total frizz control, the leave-in cream is formulated to help lock out humidity and tame flyaways by smoothing the cuticles of your hair.

Lock out humidity and tame flyaways? It certainly sounded like a tall order.

But I was both desperate and curious. Plus, I figured for $5 it couldn’t hurt to give the product a try.

At the worst, I figured I’d end up as frizzy as I started.

First impressions

While most hair creams come in a squeezable tube or pot, L’Oréal’s Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream comes in pump form.

Luckily, the opening of the nozzle is small so that when I initially pumped some of the product out I didn’t get a giant glob.

Like most L’Oreal products, the hair cream has a nice smell.

The consistency was creamy and not grossly thick like other products I’ve tried.

Based on the instructions on the packaging, the cream should be applied post-shower to damp hair.

There is no indication of the amount of product that should be used, but as most thick-haired individuals know, you must always be careful to not use too much product or you will end up with hair that is greasy and weighed down.

To finish, blow dry, and at this point, you should finally have a new sleek look.

Fab or flub?

Flub! After using L’Oréal’s Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream for more than a week, it became obvious that I was not getting the results that I wanted.

First, it did not eliminate my frizz.

Immediately after blow-drying my hair, I could tell that there wasn’t any miraculous change. My flyaways were still there, and I still had to use my Ojon Rare Blend Tamer to smooth them down.

It is also important to note that during the time that I used the product, the weather included humidity and rain.

Unfortunately, my hair did not seem to respond any better than it has with other products.

To add to my grievances, I found that the product also left my hair feeling greasy and weighed down. I used about a dime size of cream the first time and reduced it the few times I used it, but the crown of my hair still had greasiness.

On a positive note, it did leave my hair smelling great, and it felt softer than normal.

At the end of the day, the product had one job — eliminating frizz and flyaways. It didn’t stop either one.
