When I heard actress Drew Barrymore had launched her own makeup line, I was immediately intrigued. While most celebrities might be inclined to slap their name on a product, grab their check and run, I knew Barrymore would be no slouch when it comes to cosmetics — thanks to her previous stint as creative director and spokesperson for Cover Girl.
In fact, Barrymore is extremely involved in the business and daily workings of FLOWER Beauty. That dedication seems to have served the line well, ensuring that all of the makeup is made in the USA and that none of the items is tested on animals.
Eager to try out the line myself, I headed to my nearest Wal-Mart, where FLOWER Beauty is sold exclusively. Having little prior experience with products in the line (I’ve only tried a Sheer Up Lip Tint), I decided to review a newer product called Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby Sticks.
Retailing for $10, the product is suppose to work as both a lip color and blush, and it comes in five shades. The makeup sticks reminded me of giant crayons. The packaging is nice and looks similar to that of more expensive brands. I purchased the shades Think Pink and Can’t Re-fuschia and hurried on my way.

When I first came across the Kiss Me Twice sticks, I had visions of a budget-friendly alternative to NARS’ The Multiple, because both The Multiple and Kiss Me Twice are designed for use on lips and cheeks. Only you could buy almost four of the Kiss Me Twice sticks for the cost of The Multiple, which retails for $39. A big difference.
With high hopes for good results, I applied the product to my lips first. Immediately, I was astounded at the product’s pigmentation. The color payoff is incredible, so much so that the product must be applied with a very light hand (trust me, I learned the hard way).
It’s also important to note that due to the chubby nature of the stick, you definitely want to be looking in a mirror when you apply it — or risk the chance of looking like Ronald McDonald.
Overall, the formula felt very creamy and smooth and seemed to have a matte finish similar to NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencils. If you are not a fan of matte products, this can easily be resolved with the help of a clear gloss or balm.
Moving on to my cheeks, I kept in mind the product’s extreme pigmentation and lightly dabbed the stick onto the apples of my cheeks, then blended it in with my fingers. Quick and easy to apply, it left me with perfectly flushed cheeks. I definitely liked the finished look of this product, more so than a powder blush, which can sometimes look harsh. In general, I think cream blushes seem more fresh and look better on the skin during warm weather months.
Fab or flub?
Fab! I have to applaud Barrymore and her team for creating a makeup line with a quality that’s on par with prestige brands — many of which are charging twice the price, or more. While there are lots of great drugstore makeup brands out there, FLOWER Beauty seems to be taking it to the next level and proving that the best makeup doesn’t have to come from high-end stores.
As for the Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby Stick, I love everything about it. I love that the color is exceptional. I love that it’s travel-friendly and won’t take up too much space in your makeup bag or purse. Plus, you could buy two, and keep one at home, and still pay half the price of brands such as NARS. Plus, since it works on both lips and cheeks, you’re really getting two products for what is a reasonable price for one.
So whether you’re trying to make those precious pennies stretch or just on the hunt for a good deal on a great product, I’d say the Kiss Me Twice sticks are a win-win.
