North Texas existing home sales rise 6%

After dipping in August, sales of existing homes in North Texas rose 6 percent in September.

According to the monthly sales report from the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, 7,841 homes were sold last month in the 29-county region. Sales have been down in five months this year when compared with last year.

Home sales were down 1 percent in the first nine months of 2014, the report said. In all, 69,216 homes were sold. The Real Estate Center compiles sales numbers from the multiple listing service database of residential real estate brokers.

In Tarrant County, sales were strong in Westlake-Trophy Club, central west Fort Worth, and the northwest Fort Worth, River Oaks and Azle areas, the report said.

The report still reflects rising home prices in the region. September’s median sales price was $186,500, up 8 percent from a year ago and $600 from August, the report said.

Homes that sold in September were on the market 57 days, a 12 percent jump from a year ago. In August, homes that sold were on the market 45 days. For the year to date, homes took 52 days to sell, a 9 percent decrease.

The inventory of homes for sale, 21,088 in September, was down 10 percent, while 8,892 homes were newly listed for sale, up 5 percent from September 2013, the report said.
