Passionate symphony supporters will don their finest formal attire and descend on Bass Hall and later the Worthington Renaissance Hotel for a sparkling evening of entertainment for the annual Fort Worth Symphony Gala and Concert on Feb. 6.
A talented event committee has concocted an unforgettable evening and has garnered the internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso Joshua Bell to headline the concert portion of the event.
“I am thrilled that Adele Hart, Joan Friedman and Ashli Blumenfeld have graciously agreed to co-chair this gala celebration with me,” said event chairwoman Mercedes T. Bass. “I am a great admirer of Joshua Bell, and I know his performance with our orchestra will be magnificent.”
Bell, arguably one of the most celebrated violinists of recent times, will perform with the orchestra conducted by Maestro Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The concert will feature Bruch’s Violin Concerto and Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier Suite.
After the 7 p.m. concert, the party continues in the Grand Ballroom of the Worthington Hotel, where guests will enjoy a wonderful seated dinner, open bar, dancing and live auction.
“We have planned a wonderful evening for our guests, ending with a red-and-black St. Valentine’s-themed dinner at the Worthington — we will celebrate love a little early this year,” Bass said.
Live music after dinner will be a decided departure from the classical repertoire enjoyed at the concert when popular party band Time Machine performs from its wide-ranging catalog of tunes.
Sandwiched between dinner and dancing, a brief live auction led by Christie’s auctioneer Robbie Gordy will give bidders a chance at some very attractive offerings. For example, the highest bidder will take home suite seating at a Dallas Cowboys preseason game or perhaps win the Maestro for a Day experience. in which the winner spends the day with Harth-Bedoya and gets to conduct the national anthem at a performance.

New venues in Southlake debut on Jan. 23
The long-awaited and eagerly anticipated The Marq opened last month to the delight of the Southlake community. It includes a premier activity and event venue, Legends Hall, as well as an outdoor amphitheater called Aria.
The Apex Arts League is proud to be among the first organizations to host events at the new facility. Apex will present “The Debut … Arts at The Marq” from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The event will be a great introduction to the new community spaces while it highlights the visual arts collection selected for the facility.
“Music will feature String Theory Manouche in an acoustic music ensemble in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli,” said Terri Messing, chairwoman of Apex.
Messing said food will be prepared by the Academy of Culinary Arts & Hospitality at Byron Nelson High School, and the visual art will be by Kathleen Caricof, Select Art and various Art in the Square artists.
Dinner Party for Life Feb. 4 raises money for cancer patients’ meals
Cancer patients may not feel up to eating six-course gourmet meals during their treatment, but having nutritious and delicious food is of the utmost importance to those who are combating disease.
Local nonprofit Cuisine for Healing is dedicated to make healthy food readily available to cancer patients and others who have serious illness, and to fund its mission the charity will host the fifth edition of Cuisine for Healing on Feb. 4 at the Fort Worth Club.
The evening will include a six-course menu paired with selected wines. According to a news statement, “Each unique dish will be prepared by one of six top chefs in the Fort Worth area and will meet Cuisine for Healing’s healthy certification guidelines.”
Timothy Prefontaine, who is executive chef at the Fort Worth Club, and five other chefs will each prepare signature dishes for the event. Karon Constance (Cuisine for Healing), Scott Kaiser (Cannon Chinese Kitchen), Ben Merritt (Fixture Kitchen and Social Lounge), Stefon Rishel (Max’s Wine Dive) and Charles Youts (The Classic Cafe) will serve spectacular entrees sure to please a variety of palates.
Rosie Moncrief is the honorary chairwoman, and food/travel writer June Naylor will emcee the event.
Guests at the festive evening will enjoy live music and will have the opportunity to visit with the chefs and learn more about Cuisine for Healing’s programs.
