Real Weddings: Lori Katz & Brad Sturman

Lori Katz and Brad Sturman spent many fall weekends together supporting Horned Frog football at Amon G. Carter Stadium. But having their wedding take place at the newly renovated facility was a dream come true for Lori.

“Since I graduated from TCU and we are proud Frogs, it was the perfect spot for our reception,” she says.

After a ceremony at Beth-El Congregation in Fort Worth, where Lori and Brad met during Sunday school, a grand reception took place inside the stadium’s spacious Champions Club. Jill Fortney Productions Inc. transformed the space from swanky football-watching suite to a luxurious landscape of warm and intimate floral-filled scenes.

“We spent several days making that vast space into small, intimate areas,” says company president Jill Fortney. “We created vignettes so people could sit in small groups and enjoy themselves.”

Thousands of flowers in shades of purple and deep blues poured from crystal-clear vases and candelabras amid multiple buffets, makeshift walls and chic lounge seating areas. Lori says she didn’t see the final arrangements, all designed by Fortney and her team, until the actual event.

“It was breathtaking,” Lori says. “It was like getting an arrangement from someone special but on a dramatic scale. It was emotional.”

Upon arrival, guests were given a guide to all dining stations, which included entrees of poached salmon and beef tenderloin as well as a seafood buffet of shrimp and crab accompanied by cayenne remoulade and cocktail sauces from Fortney’s recipe collection. There was also a bamboo-flanked sushi bar coordinated by the folks from Tokyo Cafe.

A half-dozen signature drinks were named for Lori and Brad’s dogs, including the Lakota Mule, a play on the Moscow mule, which was Lori’s favorite. Late-night snacks included fried chicken sliders with coleslaw, mini corn dogs and mini ice cream cones — because Brad loves ice cream, Fortney says.

“There was so much love in the whole place from the guests, celebrating with the bride and groom,” says Fortney. “It was a royal celebration of these two. And their joy made the whole evening very joyful.”

The bride remembers that her first dance with her new husband — a routine executed after much practice — was the most memorable moment of the night.

“We loved everything about our wedding and are so grateful to Jill Fortney and the entire team who made all of our dreams come true,” she says.
