Eats Beat: Lower prices but not smaller plates for Restaurant Week

Any DFW Restaurant Week dinner is a bargain, some more than others.

But the best bargains are those restaurants serving full dinners for $35.

Example: Del Frisco’s Grille.

For $35, through Sunday, diners at the casual Grilles in Fort Worth or Southlake get a three-course dinner of regular menu items, not shrunk-down samplings.

“This is a great way to showcase what we do on our regular menu,” said Kenneth Davis, manager of the Grille on Sundance Square Plaza. “This is not a scaled-down portion. We want people to see what we’re about.”

Both Grille locations are busy at night, but not always at lunch, maybe because some diners still think they’re steakhouses.

The Restaurant Week menu starts with a choice of salads, Del’s cream-corn soup or cheesesteak eggrolls, then offers five entrees: salmon, roast chicken, prime short rib, meatloaf or the huge Del’s double burger.

For dessert, there’s chocolate cake, Nutella bread pudding or a special Turtle cheesecake.

That’s up to a $48 dinner at regular prices.

Before 4 p.m. through Sunday, the same items come as a two-course lunch for $20. (Dessert is extra.)

“People think of Del’s for steak and seafood, but we can do everyday dining,” Davis said.

Corporate cousin Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse has always been one of the largest Restaurant Week donors to the Lena Pope children’s agency. (The Double Eagle Steakhouse continues a $45 menu through Aug. 30.)

Aledo’s funky artisan pizzeria, Slice The Pizza Spot, will close Saturday.
