The big news is breakfast.
Two new breakfast restaurants are open or near opening in west Fort Worth, and another restaurant will begun a Sunday buffet brunch this weekend.
The Original Pancake House, a 60-year-old chain based in Oregon, will open its first Fort Worth location this fall at Overton Park Plaza on Southwest Loop 820 at South Hulen Street.
“People in Fort Worth have been wanting an Original Pancake House almost since the day it opened in Dallas,” said local franchise owner Mark Davis Bailey, who went from regular customer at the Midway Road location to directing the Texas locations.

The Original Pancake House is known for its “Dutch baby” — technically, Deutsch baby — entree of miniature German lemon-and-powdered-sugar baked pancakes, and also, the baked cinnamon-apple pancakes.
If it sounds like a different Fort Worth pancake house, Bailey said he knows all about Fort Worth’s iconic Ol’ South.
“We have every respect for that [Benson] family and the history they’ve built,” Bailey said. “We’re excited to come and show Fort Worth what we’re about.”
The “OPH” promotes taking “five days to make a pancake,” starting with a sour starter and then making a buttermilk base from scratch.
The Fort Worth location will be in a 25-year-old chain restaurant space that originally housed a Regas Grill (cousin to Grady’s American Grill), then a TGI Friday’s and lately, Bennigan’s. The address is 4646 S.W. Loop 820. Doors should open by the winter holidays.
▪ A new location of Colorado-based The Egg and I Restaurants is open in the Village at Camp Bowie.
The Egg and I is a simple grill known for omelets, frittatas and Western-style skillets and scrambles, along with sandwiches and salads.

▪ Bite City Grill’s weekly Sunday buffet begins this weekend, including fried chicken-and-waffles, an omelet station, a breakfast station and desserts.
▪ Otherwise, the nicest weekly Sunday buffet is at Buttons Food and Music. Cast Iron in the Omni Fort Worth has a buffet some Sundays but not every week.
