Here are some not-so-scary Halloween activities for young ghosts and goblins in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Best of all, the events are free.

Treat Street at the Fort Worth Stockyards

Join Stockyards Station and 92.1 Hank FM Party Patrol for costume contests, pumpkin decorating, games, hayrides and trick or treating at Stockyards Station shops.

Recommended ages: All

When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, October 31

Kidgits Boo Bash at North East Mall

Children can participate in craft projects and games. Each trick-or-treater will get a treat bag. Don't miss the Chick-fil-a cow and take a photo at the fall backdrop.

Good to know: Costumes are welcome, but masks are allowed only on children 12 years old or younger. No toy weapons are allowed.

Recommended ages: 12 and younger

When: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, October 31

Scare on the Square in McKinney

This annual event has grown to hundreds of trick-or-treaters. Historic Downtown McKinney is closed off for trick-or-treaters to cross the street safely and go shop-to-shop for goodies.

Recommended ages: All

When: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, October 30

Halloween events at Bass Pro Shops

Children can make free Halloween crafts, get their photo taken with the Peanuts gang. On October 30 and October 31, there will also be trick-or-treating and a costume parade.

Recommended ages: 12 and younger

When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday October 30 and Saturday, October 31
