Friday Freebies: Pumpkin Patches in the DFW area

It's time to enjoy this fall weather and pick out a pumpkin or two for your family. Here are some patches in Dallas/Fort Worth with free admission:

The Pumpkin Patch in Arlington: First Christian Church Arlington with Rush Creek Christian Church of Arlington puts on this patch to raise funds for their youth groups. Little ones can enjoy storytelling, lawn games and a mini-pumpkin maze.

Good to know: Special events are scheduled including a movie night at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 19 and a pumpkin decorating contest on Saturday, October 26.

Recommended ages: All

When: 11 a.m. to dusk, daily. Through October 31.

The Pumpkin Patch in Flower Mound:Hundreds of pumpkins cover the grounds of this patch, which provides wagons to help you with your purchases. Lots of great photo opportunities for your family at this patch. Children can also enjoy bounce houses, a hay maze, hayrides and more.

Good to know: Parking is $5. Picnic tables are provided for individual use, however use of tables by any large groups or parties must be reserved and confirmed.

Flower Mound Pumpkin Village: Free activities for the kids include hay rides, hay pyramid, bounce house and bounce maze. Other activities have fees.

Good to know: Pumpkins prices range from $1.00 to $30.00 per pumpkin with all profits going to charity. Food and drinks available for purchase.

Hall's Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze in Grapevine: Pick out pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, gourds, hay bales and corn stalks. The corn maze consists of two acres of towering corn stalks, some standing 9 ft. tall, that lead through twists, turns and dead ends.

Good to know: No dogs allowed. Admission is free. $5 per person for Corn Maze, free for children 3 and younger; $2 per person for hayrides. Cash only.

When: 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday; 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday. Through October 31.

Frisco Pumpkins on the Prairie: Enjoy the cooler temperatures of Fall and head to this fun pumpkin patch. Your children can play in bounce houses, run through the hay maze and play games in the "Kids' Patch." Don't miss the Pumpkin Launching (pumpkin purchase required) and face painting on weekends! All proceeds will benefit Grace Avenue Missions, Ministries and Assistance.

Good to know: Dogs are not allowed in the patch area unless they are carried or ride in a wagon.

When: Open through October 31. 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. (or sunset), Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.(or sunset) Saturday and Sunday; NOTE: The pumpkin patch will open at 9 a.m. on Sundays, however, activities do not begin until noon.

Rockwall Pumpkin Patch: Daily activities for the kids include a special photo area, Story Time Theatre near Oscar the Scarecrow, a hay maze and pumpkin carving. On Saturdays, there's Pumpkin Patch Playtime, which includes storytime, craft projects, face painting and special entertainment.

Good to know: Pumpkins are delivered from New Mexico and California where ideal conditions produce large colorful pumpkins. Tuesday is Senior Day. Seniors (ages 55 or better) get 10% off purchases.

Pumpkins in the Park at Turtle Creek: This fall festival, hosted by the nonprofit Turtle Creek Association, includes free activities and lots of pumpkins. The park will turn from green to orange with hundreds of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, decorated and plain, available for purchase. Children can get face painting, air brush tattoos and balloons. Bring a picnic and blankets to enjoy one of Dallas’ most beautiful public parks.

Good to know: Pumpkins not sold at the end of the event will be donated to Scottish Rite Hospital OR guests can purchase pumpkins to be donated to bring some pumpkin cheer to patients at the hospital.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, October 19

Where: Southeast corner of Hall Street and Turtle Creek Boulevard in Dallas (across from Lee Park, between Turtle Creek Blvd. and the Katy Trail). Free parking will be at Park Creek Place, 3635 Hall Street, Dallas. Entrance to parking garage is on Welborn Street.
