When Sen. Wendy Davis showed up on the Texas Senate floor for her 11-hour filibuster Tuesday morning, she made sure she came prepared.
With rules stating that the senator would have to remain standing throughout the entire filibuster (no food or bathroom breaks allowed, and no “leaning on a desk” permitted), Davis threw out her heels and opted for comfort in the form of hot pink running shoes.
The 50-year-old Fort Worth senator’s oft-photographed filibuster footwear became the talk of social media; photos of them ran on newspapers’ front pages and websites. The Washington Post even wrote a story about them with the headline “These shoes were made for filibusterin.’”
So, what were they and how can you get the same kicks?

Made by Mizuno, the Wave Rider 16 running shoe comes in four vibrant color combinations — Davis’ rouge red-apple green-dark shadow; white-ultraviolet-anthracite; Aruba blue-electric-anthracite; and violet tulle-vibrant orange-ultraviolet. The shoes also are available in a men’s version.
On the company’s website, it says the shoe “delivers a harmonious balance of lightweight feel, sculpted fit and exquisitely smooth ride.” Something called “innovative Wave plate technology,” it says, creates a “brilliant run experience.”
Those looking to pick up a pair around town are in luck.
We called the stores Wednesday morning, and they had them in stock.
Store personnel said they didn’t know, however, whether Davis — a runner and cyclist — had bought hers locally.
