A judge cleared the way Monday for adoptions to begin for 173 animals seized recently in Denton County, including guinea pigs, cats, chickens, rabbits, goats, donkeys, an emu and other birds, the Humane Society of North Texas announced Monday.
The animals' owner waived the right to appeal their seizure from property near Sanger, according to a news release.
Investigators said they believe the owner was running a breeding operation, but the property was filthy with feces and carcasses, and the animals had inadequate food and water.
The 30 rabbits won't be available until all are spayed or neutered, and some "will need continuous medical care for ear infection," the release said.
