Haltom High School employee arrested in indecency case

HALTOM CITY -- An education assistant at Haltom High School was arrested Thursday on a charge of indecency with a child-sexual contact, police said.

Mario Alberto Gamez, 31, of Fort Worth, who has resigned, was arrested on allegations that he took the hand of a 15-year-old student and put it on an inappropriate place on the outside of his pants, said Cpl. Joe Hackfeld, a Haltom City police spokesman.

Gamez told police the girl touched his pants on her own, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. Gamez also told police that he had spoken with the student about sex, given the girl four condoms and instructed her on using them, the affidavit said.

A school official told a school resource officer that Gamez suggested that the girl practice using the condoms by putting them on a banana, the affidavit said.

The resource officer was also told that Gamez had asked when the girl's father would be home and suggested that he could bring more condoms to the girl's apartment, the affidavit said.

"It still is an allegation and we take those seriously," said Mark Thomas, a school district spokesman. "We're hoping that if there is anyone else that knows anything else about the alleged incident, they will contact the police."

Police are investigating the case and ask anyone with information to call 817-222-7000.
