State Sen. Wendy Davis is among those urging people to participate in Saturday's Komen Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure.
She and others, including Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, are asking Texans to put aside recent controversies and focus on the event whose proceeds could save lives in North Texas.
"We have the opportunity to do what is right for women's health screenings and the battle against breast cancer," Davis, D-Fort Worth, said in a statement. "Hundreds of thousands of women in Texas will no longer have access to cancer screenings due to political posturing by some in our state and we cannot afford to harm the remaining services left available to Texas women."
