Eight DFW seniors get National Merit Achievement Scholarship

Eight area high school seniors have been awarded the National Merit Scholarship Program's $2,500 Achievement Scholarship, given to the nation's top African-American students.

Nationwide, 800 seniors received scholarships worth more than $2 million.

Grand Prairie

Kristyn B. Williams, optometry, Timberview High School

Marisa N. Swanson, social work/nonprofit management, South Grand Prairie High School

Grapevine

Danielle A. Whyte, foreign service, Grapevine High School

Keller

Courtney N. Prentiss, career undecided, Keller High School

Mansfield

Moriah S. Smoot, engineering/orthodontics, Mansfield High School
