5-year-old girl killed in Fort Worth hit-and-run

FORT WORTH -- A 5-year-old girl was killed Sunday afternoon after a hit-and-run motorist struck her and two other children as they walked along the street, police said.

The identity of the girl had not been released.

Police later arrested the male driver, who left the scene in the 1700 block of Southcrest Court, and a male passenger, according to Fort Worth police spokeswoman Sharron Neal.

Officers received the call shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The girl was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center where she died, Neal said.

The conditions of the other two children were not available. Neighbor Pamela Griffin said she saw one of the children, a little boy, conscious shortly after the hit-and-run.

Preliminary indications are that alcohol was not a factor, Neal said.

Neal said the motorist was westbound on Southcrest when his vehicle hit the children. He veered off afterward and hit a parked blue Ford Taurus facing eastbound, police said.

The suspect continued westbound for a little more than a block to the Times Square on the Hill apartment complex, where he and his passenger abandoned the SUV, Neal said.

Police found the SUV and tracked down the occupants and arrested them, she said.
