On Saturday, the River Legacy Living Science Center will lead guided bird walks and host a family-friendly festival as part of the 15th annual Great Backyard Bird Count.
The free festival will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and activities include crafting bird feeders, avian art, nesting bags and bird silhouettes; participating in a Migration Challenge; exploring owl pellets; journeying through Birding Lane; and face painting. An early bird walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Family-friendly bird walks and group counts will be 10:15 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Bring along binoculars and cameras.
Last year, residents spotted Northern shovelers, American coots, European starlings and lesser scaups and others in a total of 112 species reported in Arlington. To learn more about the Great Backyard Bird Count, visit www.birdcount.org.
