WATAUGA -- Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found inside her Watauga home Thursday afternoon.
Mary Davis, 36, was found dead in a bathroom about 4:45 p.m. in the house in the 5400 block of Ridge View Drive.
Watauga police Lt. Steve Hickman called it an "unexplained death" and said authorities were trying to determine whether violence was involved. The FBI is aiding in the investigation.
He said that there were no signs of foul play but that "there were conditions that caused us concern."
Hickman declined to describe the crime scene. He said the woman's husband, Vincent Davis, found the body.
"We decided to investigate it as thoroughly as possible," Hickman said.
"The FBI is assisting us, but that is no indicator of anything we suspect happened," he said. "Don't read anything into that. ... A small agency like ourselves doesn't have the science and technology. ... It's prudent for us to call in someone who does when we have a scene like this."
"We won't know much of anything until we hear from the medical examiner," Hickman said.
On Friday afternoon, eight members of the FBI's evidence response team left the Davis house carrying computer towers, cardboard boxes and brown paper bags to a white panel truck. Two people wearing blue FBI shirts searched the passenger compartments of a white Ford pickup and a white Ford Explorer parked out front.
Neighbors said the Davises were a family-oriented couple with two children, ages 5 and 9. Vincent Davis participated in Little League baseball with his son and they were always helpful to the parents and players, according to friends.
"We would e-mail each other back and forth for days," said William Whitaker, who lives down the street from the Davis house. "He's my best friend. We kept his children last night, but now they are staying with relatives."
Neighbors said people who lived nearby had been struck by petty criminals who took car wheels or stole change out of cars, but residents said they never lost their sense of security.
Mary Davis was a fourth-grade teacher at Howell Elementary School in the Fort Worth school district before resigning at the end of the fall semester. Counselors were at the school Friday.
