FORT WORTH -- A 43-year-old woman who said she was trying to defend her daughter from an abusive boyfriend was convicted of murder Friday and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Tyra Ann Whitney of Fort Worth was found guilty of killing LeMarcus Bell, 24, on Oct. 11.
Whitney testified that she went to the apartment that her daughter shared with Bell after her daughter called for help, saying she felt threatened by Bell. She first threw bleach in Bell's face and then hit him in the head with a hammer, which she had concealed under her breasts, according to a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney's office.
In her hometown, New Orleans, Whitney was convicted twice of aggravated battery, according to the news release. -- Dianna Hunt
