This year has brought nothing but good news for Salsa Fuego, the tiny cafe near the Benbrook Traffic Circle.
Texas Monthly named it one of Texas' 50 best genuine Mexican restaurants. ( Not "Tex-Mex.") The crowds waited in line for weeks.
Now, chef Carlos Rodriguez may face his greatest challenge yet: opening a second location.
It's still an idea, not a plan. But Rodriguez wants to open a second, larger Salsa Fuego on the west side for his chiles rellenos, fajitas and Mexico-style rib-eye steaks.

The current location would become a limited-menu Fuego serving the restaurant's popular burgers (including Fort Worth's most heralded guacamole burger) and burritos.
"I don't want to get away from what we're doing here or get too big," Rodriguez said. "I just want someplace with a little more room for exactly what we do now."
He's looking at a couple of west-side locations.
For now, you'll have to fit into the original cafe for specials such as honey-chipotle roasted chicken, duck quesadillas or ahi tuna burgers.
It's at 3520 Alta Mere Drive, 817-560-7888; salsafuegofw.net.
Meanwhile, two favorite west-side restaurants have added weekend brunch -- one on Saturday, one on Sunday.
La Familia Mexican Restaurant, the pioneer on what is now the Foch Street restaurant row at Crockett Street, is opening at 8 a.m. Saturdays to serve breakfast dishes and "Al's Migas" with chorizo.
La Familia is already packed at lunch and dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays; 841 Foch St., 817-870-2002, www.lafamilia-fw.com.
Revolver Taco Lounge, a Michoacan-Puebla restaurant with specialties such as duck mole and tequila-tres leches cake, now opens for Sunday lunch, which includes chilaquiles and seafood specials.
It's open Tuesdays through Saturdays for lunch and dinner, Sundays only at lunch.
Yes, the air conditioning is fixed; 2822 W. Seventh St., 817-820-0122, revolvertacolounge.com.
On Magnolia Avenue, the new Mijo's Fresh Mex restaurant and taco shop is now scheduled to open in late October.
It replaces a Thai restaurant at 1109 W. Magnolia Ave. The current Mijo's locations are at 2304 W. Park Row Drive in Pantego and 5809 W. Interstate 20 in Arlington; www.mijosfreshmex.com.
