The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a free family-friendly festival Saturday that includes lots of activities involving the exhibits, live music, contests, outdoor fun and food.
You can create your own masterpieces, blow bubbles and hula-hoop on the outdoor plaza, or dance to the music of two Austin-based bands: the Marshall Ford Swing Band quartet and the Latin rock band Del Castillo.
Guests will also be able to vote for the ultimate Amon Carter anniversary cake designed by local pastry chefs in the cake contest, record the visit with souvenir pictures in a photo booth, and enjoy American picnic fare such as hot dogs, chips and Curly's Frozen Custard.
Special art-exploration guides have been created for all ages to use while inside the galleries, and docents will be stationed throughout for further explanation and enrichment.
