A 20-year-old Weatherford man is in Parker County jail this morning, accused of abusing his 3-month-old son who was hospitalized Sunday with brain injuries thought to be the result of having been shaken.
Tyler Wayne Whitaker faces a charge of injury to a child with serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony.
Whitaker was arrested Sunday after Weatherford police were notified by staff at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth that his infant son had been admitted to the hospital with suspicious injuries.
Medical personnel told officers that the child’s injuries were not consistent with the story the boy’s parents had given, according to a news release issued Wednesday with Weatherford police.

“Weatherford investigators arrived at the hospital and began an in-depth investigation that led to the father admitting to injuring the infant and the infant’s twin brother,” the release states.
The twin brother, the release states, was also evaluated and found to have multiple fractures to his ribs and leg that appear to be the result of past abuse.
Child Protective Services have taken the twins, and a 2-year-old brother who did not appear to be injured, into protective custody, the release states.
“It is our duty as a police department to protect small children who are unable to protect themselves,” Capt. Greg Lance stated in the release. “This is a very tragic incident; we are grateful that the children are receiving the medical care they need and that this person has been arrested.”
Bond for Whitaker has been set at $75,000.
