Last of 3 suspects in Fort Worth mother's abduction is captured; all say a 4th man was involved

FORT WORTH -- Police have arrested the last of three suspects they say kidnapped a Fort Worth woman in November, leaving her 4-year-old son home alone.

Gerardo Padilla, 19, was arrested Monday on an aggravated kidnapping warrant and remained in the Mansfield Jail on Tuesday. Bail was set at $250,000

Already arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping in the case are Raudel Padilla, 27, and Juan Manuel Reyes, 36.

Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman, said all three men say they were hired by a fourth person, whom they would not identify, to kidnap the woman.

"That fourth person supposedly told them he'd pay them $5,000 each to kidnap this woman in order to scare this woman's husband into paying some money that he owed or stole from this unknown fourth person," Criado said.

The woman's husband had reported her missing Nov. 16.

According to a police report, he told officers that he received a call earlier in the day from an unknown man using his wife's cellphone. The man told him in Spanish that his wife was in the hospital and not doing well and that he needed to pick up their child.

When the husband tried to call back, the phone went straight to voice mail. He then went home, found the couple's 4-year-old child alone, and called police.

Police have said the three men took the woman to the Hillsboro area, where she was bound to a chair with tape. After being left alone that night, the woman broke free, crawled through a window and got help, police have said.

Hill County authorities arrested Reyes a short time later. Raudel Padilla was arrested last month. Both remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday. Bail was set at $100,000 for Raudel Padilla and $50,000 for Reyes.
