Services for Kimberly Deshay Carter, 29, the Arlington resident fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend last week have been scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
A wake will be held from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Friday at Golden Gate Funeral Home, 5701 E. Loop 820 South in Fort Worth.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Valley Baptist church at 4800 S. Riverside Drive in Fort Worth. There will not be a burial ceremony after the service.
The family has asked anyone interested in helping defray the cost of the arrangements to contact the funeral home at 817-478-9555.
The Arlington Police Department and Arlington Police Association, meanwhile, have announced that they are coordinating a fund to benefit Carter's 11-year-old daughter, Ciani Jennings.
Arlington Police Officer Jillian Smith was fatally shot while protecting the girl from Carter’s ex-boyfriend, who then committed suicide after he killed Carter.
Arlington Police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said the fund was being created to help pay for Ciani’s education, including college expenses, and to help with any mental health services that she might require.
"Officer Smith’s actions on that fateful day are believed to have saved Ciani’s life." Richard said in a release. "The Department and Association want to help Ciani make the most of her future and ask that others donate to support that cause."
Those interested in donating to the Ciani Jennings fund can do so through the Arlington Federal Credit Union, or by mailing donations to the Arlington Police Association–Ciani Jennings at P.O. Box 27, Arlington, Texas 76004, Richard said.
