A last-minute holiday boost for retailers

With Christmas Eve falling on a Friday -- and it being a holiday to boot -- stores are looking for a last rush of shoppers.

The season has shaped up as a strong one for retailers, with consumers -- like these at North East Mall in Hurst on Thursday -- out shopping in numbers since November. The 10 days before Christmas typically account for about a third of holiday sales, said Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak.

The week "annually boosts December performance and provides a real bookend to the season," Martin said. -- Star-Telegram
