Don't have a ticket to Euless Trinity vs. Coppell?
Don't worry. You can still watch it.
KTXA/Channel 21 announced Thursday that it will air the game live at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The matchup of undefeated high school football powers is expected to draw an overflow crowd to 12,000-seat Dragon Stadium in Southlake.
Live broadcasts of Friday night football games are prohibited by UIL rules unless the game sells out 48 hours before kickoff, KTXA communications director Lori Conrad said.
"We were hoping for a sellout, certainly. But we were prepared to tape-delay it, if necessary," she said.
LaDarrin McLane and Doug Anderson will call the game, with Joe Gumm reporting on the sideline.
Defending state champion Trinity (13-0) is No. 1 in four national rankings, plus the Associated Press Texas 5A poll. Coppell (13-0) has its winningest team ever and is No. 5 in the state poll and No. 28 on ESPN's national list.
The teams have not played since 2005, when Trinity won 34-0 in a regular-season game. The winner advances to the 5A Division I state semifinals next week against Round Rock Stony Point or DeSoto. KTXA will air Saturday's Story Point-DeSoto on tape-delay Saturday at midnight.
Trinity has won the 5A Division I championship three times in five seasons. This will be the fourth live TV broadcast of the season for Trinity. The others were on Thursday or Labor Day, which is allowed by the UIL.
