Public or private
Speaking of airport security, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport CEO Jeff Fegan says his facility was among those that received a letter from U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., asking that it consider switching to a private security firm.
Mica is expected to lead the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee when Congress convenes in January, and he has received thousands of dollars in campaign donations from executives connected to private security contractors.
Fegan apparently doesn't buy into all the flak directed at the Transportation Security Administration over its X-rated body scans and intrusive pat-downs.
"We get fantastic support from the TSA at our airport," Fegan said, adding that airport employees have not decided about using private security. "The TSA here at D/FW was selected as the No. 1 TSA operation in the country."
Fegan did tell airport board members that two mid-size airports, San Francisco and Kansas City, using private contractors say there is no reduction in safety.
Circle is complete
BOKA Powell has moved its architecture, planning and design firm to The Carnegie, 421 W. Third St. in downtown Fort Worth, a building it helped design.
"We are expanding our presence in Fort Worth because of our growing client base here, which includes the JPS Health Network, Texas Wesleyan University, and corporate campus projects at Heritage Commons and the Alliance Airport Business Park," principal Don Powell said. It also has offices in Dallas and Austin.
BOKA also designed the Mercedes-Benz Financial and Daimler Truck Financial U.S. headquarters at Alliance, as well as the Omni American Bank headquarters and the DynCorp International regional headquarters.
