3 Lewisville women accused of stealing clothes while they had six kids in tow

Three Lewisville women face charges after Grapevine police say they stole several items of clothing from a Grapevine Mills mall store with their six young children in tow.

One child was an infant and the oldest child was 3, according to police reports. Police see children tagging along with theft suspects "every once in a while," Lt. Todd Dearing said Thursday.

The women who were arrested Tuesday are accused of stealing $205.81 worth of clothes from JC Penney at the mall, 3000 Grapevine Mills Parkway.

The six kids were released after one of the women called a relative to get them. The women have 10 children, but they brought six to the mall.

Grapevine police identified the women as Maribel Diaz, 18; Diaz's sister, Mariseia Amaya, 22; and Abigail Hernandez, 23. They were free Thursday after posting $2,000 bail each shortly after their arrest.

Each woman will be charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, police said.

"I was not going out there to do that," Amaya said Thursday in a telephone interview. "They started doing it so I did, too."

Hernandez and Diaz could not be reached Thursday.
