FORT WORTH -- A 3-year-old boy shot himself in the hand Saturday night after finding his father's handgun in the man's bedroom, according to a television report and police. While he was gone, the child found the gun and fired it, wounding a finger, KDFW quoted Williams as saying. The boy was treated and released from Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, but he and his 5-year-old sister were placed in foster care by Child Protective Services. The shooting occurred at 11:47 p.m. Saturday in the 5900 block of Whittlesey Road. Investigators interviewed everyone at the home. No arrests have been made.
Meth killed man who died in police custody
An Arlington man who became ill in Coppell police custody last month died from methamphetamine intoxication, the Tarrant County medical examiner's office has ruled. After toxicology tests, the examiner's office ruled that the death of Steven Irwin, 42, was an accident, according to a Sunday post on its website. Coppell officers stopped Irwin at about 4:40 a.m. Aug. 20 on suspicion of a traffic violation, police said. As they were about to release him, he said he was sick and began sweating and shaking. Officers restrained him when he became combative. At that point, he spat out a small plastic bag, police said. Paramedics took him to the Medical Center of Lewisville, where he died at 6 a.m.

Man charged with killing his 3 children
HOUSTON -- A father has been charged with capital murder, accused of fatally shooting his three children, likely as they slept, in northeast Harris County on Sunday morning. The bodies of two girls, ages 14 and 7, and a 12-year-old boy were found in their beds Sunday morning. Their father, Mohammad Goher, 47, was unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head when authorities arrived around 9:45 a.m. He was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said. Neighbors said the children visited their father on weekends at his apartment and that the mother and children moved out about a year ago. Court records show that the couple divorced in 2009. The family has had a history of domestic violence, including a spring 2006 arrest of the father on suspicion of family violence, according to court records. Authorities said the mother and children were staying in a homeless shelter for abuse victims.
