Burleson nursing home evacuated after power failure on triple-digit day

BURLESON -- Some 50 residents of a nursing home in Burleson were briefly evacuated late Tuesday after a power failure on a triple-digit August day.

Three residents of Trinity Mission Health and Rehab were taken to Huguley Hospital, said Cindy Aaron, a Burleson police spokeswoman. Forty-seven others were moved to the nearby First Christian Church of Burleson.

Police received a 911 hangup call around 8:40 p.m. Officers found that the power had been out since about 7 p.m., and fire and medical personnel were dispatched.

Officials said the facility experienced intermittent power failures during the day. Tuesday's high was 102 degrees at D/FW Airport.

Responders from Burleson, Rendon, Crowley, Edgecliff Village, Johnson County and Medstar were on the scene late Tuesday.

The Burleson Emergency Operations Center was dispatched, and the Burleson school district safety coordinator was on hand in case evacuation to a school was necessary.

Workers for Oncor replaced a transformer and power returned about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The residents were moved back in about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
