Three dead, one missing in accidents at three Dallas-Fort Worth lakes

Tragedy hit three North Texas lakes Sunday as three people died and another was missing.

Authorities are bracing for thousands of more visitors today at area lakes for Memorial Day.

In Denton County, a 23-year-old man drowned in Lewisville Lake after he jumped off a party boat at about 6 p.m. Sunday and never surfaced. That happened near Westlake Park, Lewisville Assistant Fire Chief Tim Tittle said.

Crews from Lewisville and the Denton County Sheriff's Department and Texas game wardens searched the lake until the man's body was found shortly after 7 p.m., Tittle said.

Authorities did not release his name.

At Eagle Mountain Lake, two people died Sunday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. Authorities were on the scene Sunday night, but no details were available.

At Lake Grapevine, a search was called off Sunday night for a person who went in the water but never surfaced, police and a fire official said.

At several area lakes, authorities said extra patrol boats would be out today to watch out for speeding and drunken boat drivers.

"Anytime we have a three-day weekend like this, we put extra boats out," Tittle said. "We try to do this best we can to keep the lake safe."
