Controversy over the National Day of Prayer will not stop local organizers from gathering today.
Congress created the day in 1952, and in 1988 established the first Thursday of May as the official National Day of Prayer. Last month, a federal court ruled the day unconstitutional, but the presiding judge noted that the ruling would not take effect until all appeals are exhausted.
Events are planned across the region, including at downtown Fort Worth's Burnett Park, where participants plan to pray from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
