2-year-old girl dies from assault injuries, medical examiner says

FORT WORTH -- A 2-year-old girl died Friday morning at a Fort Worth hospital from blunt force trauma received in an assault, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office.

Breylnn Nobles, who had been hospitalized at Cook Children’s Medical Center since Wednesday, was pronounced dead at 12:52 a.m.

The medical examiner’s office has ruled her death a homicide, caused by “internal hemorrhaging associated with shock.” It attributed the internal hemorrhage to blunt trauma to the abdomen suffered during an assault by another person.

According to a Fort Worth police report, officers were dispatched to a home in the 5900 block of Wilkes Drive about 9:35 p.m. Wednesday. The report states firefighters informed officers that the girl was being taken to the hospital for head trauma.

Sgt. Chad Mahaffey, a police spokesman, said the crimes against children’s unit is investigating the death.

“They are continuing their investigation and interviewing the child’s caregivers,” Mahaffey said. “Additional information will be released as soon as it’s possible.”
