Trendspotting: Minx nails

Ever since celebrities started sporting shiny "Minx" nails to red-carpet events a couple years back, customers across the country have flocked to trendy nail salons, putting their best hands forward for the bright, bold designs. More and more salons in North Texas are starting to offer the service.

Minx is a film with an adhesive backing that is applied to nails and sealed to the nail bed using heat. The process takes about 45 minutes for both hands; it can be done on toes, too. The look typically lasts a week or two, the company says. The foil comes off when nails are soaked in acetone.

"Believe it or not, I have teenagers [asking for Minx], but the clients I do the most for are between age 30 and 40. They love the cool zebra prints," said Nancy Pham, owner of Hollywood Nails & Spa in Fort Worth (817-735-8100; www.hollywoodspatx.com), which last month started offering the service ($55 for hands or feet). Minx can be customized with virtually any pattern or picture the customer wants, too, Pham said. They just need to send her a photo ahead of time.

Other spas in the Tarrant area, including Fort Worth, Mansfield and Grapevine, also do Minx nails, according to the company's Web site.
