Driving in west Fort Worth to get more difficult this week

Driving in west Fort Worth will become more challenging as construction of the long-awaited Southwest Parkway toll road gets under way this week.

On Tuesday, parts of Hulen Street south of the rail yard will be reduced by one lane, and shortly after that traffic on the Hulen Street bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction. One lane of eastbound West Vickery Boulevard will be closed west of Hulen because of construction in the nearby Union Pacific rail yard.

Also, sometime within a few weeks, the Rosedale Street entrance and exit to Interstate 30 -- a major access point to Fort Worth's medical district -- will be closed. Drivers on eastbound East Vickery will be directed onto eastbound Interstate 30 and won't be able to connect to Forest Park Boulevard. The right lane of eastbound I-30 will become exit-only at University Drive.

The work is scheduled through April 2011.
